I’ve always been afraid of knives, from the machete a woman I used to babysit for kept under her bed to the standard kitchen knife. There is a belief out there that a dull knife is a dangerous knife, in my house I’ve proven this is the opposite.

There are a number of different directions to take. Write a character study about the guy giving the review. Write a short story with this knife as the main character following it through its different experience with new owners. Write about a group of boys who steal a knife like this from one of their fathers to enact revenge on someone who has hurt one of them. Write a non-fiction piece on why every boy should (or should not) learn how to handle knives.

Watch this short video about swarming starlings in Rome. It is an interesting phenomena. Scientist seem to know how the birds do it but they don’t know why they do it. For the next fifteen minutes write why they do what they do:

Here’s a short clip from a 60 Minutes interview with nurse Cissy Ssuuna from Kampala, Uganda about the children with aids she counsels. Watch the clip looking for your starting line or inspiration:
Five possibilities for you: Create a profile about nurse Cissy or some other nurse. Write about a child surviving with aids. Write about an orphan girl adopted by a nurse. Write a short story about two young girls with aids who meet at a clinic. Write a scene in which a father has to tell his daughter she has aids.
